Trilling receives $10,000 toward future schooling, pledges to begin legal career as a trial lawyer
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Milestone has named Samara Trilling as the recipient of the 2024 Trial LawHER Scholarship. This $10,000 scholarship is awarded annually to a 3L woman law student who intends to become a plaintiff trial lawyer. Trilling attends Harvard Law School and beat out applicants from law schools across the country to be named winner of the 2024 competition.
The Trial LawHER Scholarship intends to enact change on two fronts: elevate rising women leaders in the plaintiff trial lawyer space and educate around the importance of settlement planning. In order to be considered, applicants must be female, enrolled in a 3L law school program, and have plans to become a plaintiff trial lawyer. Trilling was selected as this year’s scholarship recipient based on the contents of her essay and video submissions.
“From the very beginning, Samara’s application stood out for its thoughtful approach and clear understanding of how settlement planning can be seamlessly integrated into a holistic legal strategy,” said Amy Fogle, CEO of Milestone. “Our selection committee has no doubt that Samara possesses the sharp legal mind and strategic thinking necessary to become a true asset to the legal field, and we are proud to play a small role in her journey.”
Trilling is a standout at Harvard Law School, where she studies antitrust, labor law, and algorithmic regulation. She has served as president of the Law and Political Economy Association, vice president of the Antitrust Association, and on the boards of the Labor Employment Action Project and the People’s Parity Project. Additionally, her writing has garnered awards from Harvard’s Legal Research and Writing Program and from the American Bar Association’s Antitrust Law section.
”The support of this scholarship is going to be invaluable as I embark on my career as a plaintiff-side antitrust and labor attorney,” said Trilling, whose essay drew on her experience representing marginalized clients in debt collection defense through Harvard’s Consumer Protection Clinic at the WilmerHale Legal Services Center. “I especially appreciated the scholarship’s focus on settlement planning. Too often as lawyers we only think about how to win the case for our client, not what comes after. It’s part of a lawyer’s job to see each client as a whole person and advise them accordingly.”
Milestone streamlines mass tort settlement administration through innovative technology and provides tailored plaintiff settlement planning. The Trial LawHER Scholarship was created in 2021 by Milestone founder John Bair to counteract the male-dominated state of the civil justice space and equip the next generation of attorneys with the knowledge they need to best support their clients at the time of settlement.
Applications for the 2025 cycle of the Trial LawHER Scholarship competition will open early next year. For more information on Milestone or the Trial LawHER Scholarship, visit https://milestoneseventh.com/trial-lawher-scholarship/.
