Under the supervision of the Director of Settlement Planning, the Settlement Planner is responsible for the day-to-day tasks associated with settlement planning for plaintiffs and attorneys receiving settlement funds. This role will encompass communication with attorneys and their clients and navigating the entire settlement planning process from beginning (receipt of settlement) to finish (execution of chosen plan for the client). Knowledge of various settlement planning vehicles goes to the functionality of this role, and the position will include conducting meetings with external parties, advising clients about options, and facilitating the establishment of structures, trusts, investments accounts, etc.

Essential Functions:

  • Working as part of a team to ensure a positive experience for attorneys and their clients, focusing on proper advisement and understanding of each specific settlement and claimant.
  • Proficiency in establishing trusted relationships with clients to ensure management of expectations, transparency regarding the stages of the settlement process, and a thorough understanding of how to help clients achieve their financial goals.
  • Coordinate interrelated activities amongst clients, attorneys, life companies, financial advisors, and consultants.
  • Generate, review, and confirm the accuracy of settlement illustrations and client proposals.
  • Draft and review all settlement documents, including, QARs, QARPs, SARs, Trusts, Petitions, Orders, Account Applications, etc.
  • Ability to thrive in a highly regulated environment that demands full compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Strong organizational, attention to detail, project planning and execution skills.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of investment workflows, efficiencies, and CRM systems, namely Salesforce.
  • Maintain all records regarding open cases, funding deadlines, final contracts/agreements, and provide regular status updates to the team and to external parties, when necessary.
  • Ability to prioritize and execute on multiple simultaneous priorities and initiatives.
  • A demonstrated ability to form and cultivate positive relationships with both clients, internal and external partners.
  • Assist in other operational capacities as needed.

Qualifications:

In order to qualify for this role, we expect that you will be able to demonstrate the following required knowledge, skills and abilities during the application process.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, or related focus
  • Registered Settlement Planner or Certified Structured Settlement Consultant credentials preferred.
  • Chartered Financial Planner® (CFP®) track welcomed, not necessary

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 4 years recent work experience as a Structured Settlement administrator, or Case Manager.
  • Candidate must be proficient with Microsoft Suite Applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience using Salesforce preferred.
  • Strong interest in Settlement Planning and Financial Services.
  • Self-starter with the ability to synthesize information and develop creative solutions, both within a team and independently.
  • Excellent social, verbal, and written communication skills so you can effectively articulate your thoughts when working alongside multiple business segments.
  • Organizational and time management skills; multi-task and work independently in a professional, fast-paced, and high traffic environment.
  • A positive, can-do attitude that motivates and inspire others.

Job Specs and Details:

  • Hours: Monday to Friday 9-5
  • Salary commensurate with experience
  • Office located in Buffalo, New York (this position is HYBRID – some days in office, some at home)
