As settlement planning experts, we work with many families who are moving forward from a serious injury, illness, or death. The most heartbreaking of these situations involves the littlest humans. And as parents ourselves, we connect with the pain our clients feel when a preventable issue has harmed their babies. That’s why we feel it is our duty to share news of the recall of powdered infant formula produced from Abbott Nutrition’s Sturgis, Michigan, facility. The FDA is investigating reports of Cronobacter sakazakii and Salmonella Newport infections in babies who consumed these products. Please read the FDA’s warning and pass on the information to any parent who might have purchased these formulas.

Last summer, John wrote about another baby formula recall – this one involving Similac and Enfamil formula that caused some premature infants to develop a life-threatening gastrointestinal disorder called necrotizing enterocolitis, or NEC. Prior to that post, his LinkedIn newsletter, The Civil Justice Advocate, rounded up other dangerous baby product warnings: Fisher-Price Rock ’n Glide Soothers and Rock ‘n Play Sleepers as well as several baby food brands that contained toxic metals.

The list goes on. Our team established a mass tort qualified settlement fund for cases in the In re: Simply Thick litigation involving another dangerous baby product. After working with families in this litigation and others who have lost children, we know first-hand that tragically, these situations will continue to happen. All we can do is our best work for those clients while amplifying the recalls and warnings when they happen in hopes that the message reaches some families before it’s too late.
